Will enabling the XP skin affect conversations or model requests?

No. The skin only modifies the browser DOM and body title, doesn't inject any Cordis services, doesn't send any events, and doesn't touch model requests; after uninstallation, all writes will be reverted by the effect disposer.

Can the 'Start' button in the skin center pop up the start menu?

No. It forwards the click event to the existing settings trigger button at the bottom of the sidebar, which is essentially reusing the native settings entry, not a real start menu.

Can multiple skins be enabled at the same time?

No. Only one skin can be active at a time. The mutual exclusion between skins is managed by the monorepo's scripts/dsh-skin script (dsh-skin use xp). When switching to a new skin, the old skin's effects are automatically revoked.

Will the boot page also be skinned?

No. The boot page is rendered when the shell is ready but the plugin bundle isn't ready yet, so it still uses the default appearance; once properties are set, the shell gets window borders, but cards inside the boot page retain the modern style. The skin only takes over the UI after it stabilizes.
