One-Line Description

Transforms the dsh Web GUI appearance into a Windows XP Luna blue retro style, featuring blue gradient title bars, a green Start button, Bliss blue sky desktop, and beige status bar. Pure client-side skin with no impact on any model or data behavior.

Core Features

  • Renders fixed Luna blue title bar with four-color flag icon and minimize/maximize/close buttons
  • Renders bottom beige status bar with "Ready / DeepSeek Online" and recessed CAPS/NUM/SCRL indicators
  • Inserts green "Start" button in sidebar bottom taskbar strip; clicking opens settings dialog
  • Overlays surfaces of sidebar, file explorer tree rows, settings panel, chat area and other panels with matching colors and right angles applied globally
  • Automatically switches between light Luna and dark Zune two-color palettes, following DSH host's light/dark theme
  • Injects four-color flag favicon, fixing document title to "Windows XP · DeepSeek Online"

Technical Implementation

  • Language: TypeScript
  • Key Dependencies: @deepseek-ai/cordis (type source), CSS Modules (compiled into bundle via lightningcss)
  • Architecture Pattern: Client bundle plugin, inserts ui-skin-xp entry into web GUI plugin roster via cordis.patch.yml; at runtime only writes DOM (body attributes, fixed bars, buttons, favicon, document.title), registers disposer via ctx.effect to rollback everything on unload
  • Entry Files: src/index.ts (host half empty implementation) + src/client/index.ts (browser half main logic)

Use Cases

For people who want to bring their daily dsh Web interface back to the nostalgic Windows XP era appearance—those who enjoy the visual familiarity of Luna blue gradients and green Start buttons, or want to demonstrate a retro desktop look to clients. The skin only changes the shell, not affecting model calls or session data, making it also suitable for users who want a change of pace without switching tools.

Installation

dsh plugin --profile web add github:ningbainb/deepseek-harness-desktop/packages/skins/xp

Configuration

This plugin requires no extra configuration. After installation, activate via dsh-skin use xp; to switch to another skin, run dsh-skin use <other skin name or default>.

FAQ

Q: What does this plugin do? Does it need extra configuration?

A: It transforms the dsh Web GUI appearance into a complete Windows XP Luna blue style, including title bar, status bar, Start button, desktop background, etc. After installation, just activate with dsh-skin use xp—no extra configuration needed.

Q: Can multiple skins be enabled at the same time?

A: No, only one skin can be active at a time. After installing multiple skin packages, scripts/dsh-skin performs mutually exclusive switching at the profile layer.

Q: Is the Start button a real Start menu?

A: No. Clicking the Start button forwards the click event to the settings entry at the bottom of the sidebar, opening the settings dialog—not a real Start menu.

Q: Does dark mode work?

A: Yes. When DSH theme switches to dark, the skin automatically switches to the Zune-style black variant, still driven by the data-ds-dark-theme attribute.

Q: Will the launch screen be skinned?

A: The launch screen renders before the plugin bundle during shell startup, so it keeps the default appearance; the skin takes over only after the UI stabilizes, and the launch screen's internal cards won't be Luna-styled.

Q: Will this plugin affect model requests or chat history?

A: No impact. It only modifies browser DOM (styles, attributes, title, favicon), doesn't inject services, doesn't send cordis events, and doesn't touch any provider requests.

Q: Can it still work without the data-pane attribute?

A: Yes, window title bar, status bar, Start button, favicon all work. Only panel-specific sidebar titles, file explorer tree rows, and other surface styles won't match due to missing hooks.

Q: How to uninstall?

A: Remove this plugin from the corresponding profile (dsh plugin --profile web remove ...), and switch back to another appearance via dsh-skin use <other skin name or default>—no data cleanup needed.

Difficulty Level

Beginner — One installation command + one activation, skin immediately takes over the interface, no configuration or data migration involved.

Known Issues & Limitations

  • Loading page remains unchanged: The shell launch page renders before the plugin bundle exists; skin takes effect after UI stabilizes; once attributes are set, the launch page will also get window borders, but its internal cards retain modern style
  • Theme switching is internal to skin: The skin has fixed color schemes under both data-ds-dark-theme states; switching appearance theme only flips between light Luna / dark Zune two-color sets, not back to non-skinned appearance
  • "Start" button only opens settings: It forwards clicks to the existing settings entry at bottom of sidebar, doesn't carry a real Start menu
  • Four-color flag is a flat approximation: The waving Windows flag is presented as a flat 2×2 flag (inline SVG), not a real wavy logo
